"A solid, absorbing true-crime book that depicts the depths of a remorseless mind." Clark Howard, author of City Blood

This true crime book follows the FBI's search for and capture of Darren Dee O'Neall, a serial killer whose ability to change his appearance kept him out of the reach of the authorities, and describes his violent sexual crimes.

Deadly Hunk--For women with a yen for macho men, Darren Dee O'Neall seemed the kind of guy romantic dreams were made of. Strong, handsome, smooth talking, with an array of tattoos adding to his masculine aura, he came on as a rugged outdoorsman looking for a mate. But in reality, O'Neall was a nightmare of savage, sexually violent crimes that put him on the FBI's Most Wanted list.

Here is the bone-chilling true crime story of the twisted killer whose masterful ability to change appearances confounded authorities again and again...and a mother's agonizing search for her missing daughter. It is the story, too, of the brilliant police work and startling psychic detection that teamed with a family's outrage to bring him to justice. But it was too late for the young woman whose dream of a hunk "to die for" became a chilling reality!

To Die For eBook Gary C King

Great book about sexual predator/serial killer Darren Dee O'Neall, who terrorized the NW, mostly Washington and Oregon. He killed at least 3, but violently raped others. Thankfully he is in prison for the rest of his life. This books looks at all of the angles - the victims, law enforcement, the victim's friends and family, the sociopathic killer, etc. It is researched well, down to every detail. Some details were hard to read, especially knowing that these things happened to the victims. O'Neall was added to the FBI Top Ten list, enforcing the knowledge that he needed to be caught. Unfortunately, this story is real, not a movie. You want to believe these kinds of monsters do not exist, but they do. And Darren Dee O'Neall is a prime example. I liked this book and do recommend it!

To Die For eBook Gary C King Reviews

It is rare to find an author with such an unique ability to weave a suspense-filled novel while at the same time not getting personally involved. He possesses the rare quality in a writer to be able to stand outside of himself and describe in the words of Sgt. Joe Friday from the old Dragnet series "Just the facts ma'am, just the facts." Unlike other true crime authors he doesn't get bogged-down with "personalities." This is not to say that Mr. King is unfeeling for he is anything but. He demonstrates great sympathy for the family of Darren Dee O'Neall's first victim and follows the horrible emotional trials endured by the young woman's mother, Edna.

A large portion of the story centers around three or four states in the northwestern part of the United States. Mustering all the latest "technology" the investigators in each of the respective states along with the FBI who places O'Neall on their "Top Ten Most Wanted" list they are still unable to apprehend him. O'Neall seems like a ghost who has the uncanny ability to commit his atrocious crimes and slip the law every time all the while evading police dragnets. He is also a chameleon who changes his appearance but the one thing he can't hide are two features a tattoo of the name "June" across the knuckles of his hand and another tat of a tear-drop near the corner of one of his eyes. A lot of people recognize him from wanted posters and those tattoos. They telephone the police reporting the sightings but no sooner do the police arrive and O'Neall has vanished. He is constantly on the move.

I will not betray the ending revealing how O'Neall is finally apprehended but truth, as they say, is stranger than fiction.

At risk of using a shop-worn phrase this novel is a "real page turner." Thrilling! Absolutely thrilling!

I plan on reading every single one of Mr. King's brilliant novels for I do not believe one will find a better true crime author.
I've been reading true crime novels for over fifteen years. I've always been interested in the psychological aspect of everything. Why do they do it? What happened to them to make them do it? Who were the victims and why were they chosen?

King took true crime to a whole new level for me with his novel TO DIE FOR. Instead of slowing down part way through the book, like I do in most true crime novels when it came time for the trial, I kept reading full throttle. Instead of half a book about the courtroom, he goes deeper into the POV's of the killer, the victims, the victim's families, and the detectives working the case.

You get to listen in on the clues and sighting of the serial killer Darren O'Neall as he goes on a full out killing spree. He makes you fee like you're working with the detectives to find this animal and help put him away. Upon saying that, this is not a novel for the faint of heart. King doesn't hold back the details of the crimes, nor the heartache of the families left behind.

The parts that really hit home for me were the families devastation. Especially the mother of one of the victims, Edna Smith. I could never imagine what she went through losing a daughter in this way, but throughout the novel I felt her despair, frustrations and even a few triumphs. The relationship between this mother and her daughter who was taken in such a vicious way was beyond powerful.

I highly recommend this author to anyone who not only reads true crime novels, but who writes crime fiction. I'm definitely going to be reading a lot more of Gary C. King. True crime books are not only about the killers and the victims, but the families left behind.

On a side note, I'm in now way related to Gary C. King, I just follow him on twitter. He does have a great last name though!!
Gary C. King has told the incredibly detailed and indepth story of serial killer Darren Dee O’Neall and his depravity, his ability to evade capture by changing his appearance and the fact that he didn’t stay in one place for very long. O’Neall was a violent predator with no feelings apart from satisfying his own.

The main section of the story involves a young woman by the name of Robin and her family’s desperate attempts to find her. With the steely yet emotional determination of Robin’s mother, Edna and her family they hounded authorities and searched continually themselves.

With O’Neall eventually on the FBI’s top ten Most Wanted list the amount of law enforcement people involved in the search for him was astounding. But would their brilliant police work along with Edna and her family’s continued presence eventually get the results everyone wanted?

This chilling true story is written with sensitivity and compassion, yet not reducing the horror of what O’Neall’s crimes were. At the beginning of the book, King explains he never wants to downplay a criminal’s crimes as this may cause people to think “but he wasn’t so bad”! If you like to read true crime, this one is definitely worth reading. I have no hesitation in recommending this book.
