Choosing a Quality Web Host

If you are anything like me, you'd probably like to have a website on the Internet but you just have no idea how to go about it. All this talk of web hosting, bandwidth, disc space, and other jargon can cause one to say, "This is too complicated and technical, I just wanted to have a place to put all of my favorite skateboarding photos, cool information on ramp designs, and the best places to skate!" To get a website on the Web you have to go through a web host. The question is how do you find the web host for you? If you type 'web host' into your search engine like Google you will get thousands of sites. Hit on one of these and like any product on the market you will see all sorts of persuasive propaganda to incite you to use their company; that is if you can decipher any of the technical jargon that only computer-heads can comprehend. Some web hosts offer free business cards with an account; some probably offer free watches?like all consumer industries you the buyer must beware. I'm a writer so I'll use the analogy of a writer's journal. The journal I like must not be too big or small in book size. It also must have a good amount of space allocated to each day, again not a whole page but not just a few lines. Of course I also want it to be cheap but of a good quality that won't fall apart while I'm using it, and I hope it would last for posterity. I just want the diary, some nice pictures in it are O.K. but unnecessary especially if it adds to the price. It's the same with a web host and web site scenario. You want to get the right deal for you, enough space and enough access to the public that you wish to associate with. As a novice who doesn't understand all the jargon this can pose a problem. Are you an individual, small business, blog, or a big time corporation? What do you need and how do you get it? As far as I can tell the web hosting business is a lot like the fast food business. The big corporations have strict guidelines, will offer you special deals, and have monthly 'cheeseburger specials'. But, I've always been more interested in the 'Mom and Pop' small time diners who have that real caring human approach. You know you are a customer and a person, not just a number on a sales receipt. I believe the hosting companies are the same. A smaller hosting company will probably treat its users with more honest integrity as well as having more flexibility in dealing with your individual situation. They can often tailor web site packages to accommodate exactly what you are looking for as well as the ability to update them quickly when your needs change. My advice is to contact a few of the smaller companies. Look for ones with good reputations or just arbitrarily email them and compare results from different places. Which one do you feel most comfortable with? Go for it; ask as many questions as you can, see how the different hosts differ in their answers. Try one; if it doesn't work out try another, it's really easy to move around. Don't be afraid, you've got nothing to lose except the fear itself!

Known for its racy marketing, Go Daddy started advertising in the Super Bowl in 2005. Since then, the company expanded its marketing to include sports sponsorships.
Go Daddy filed for an IPO in 2006, but later cancelled it, due to “market uncertainties.
Go Daddy claims it wants to protect the Internet, but some of their actions have drawn the criticism of others.

History

Go Daddy was founded in 1997 as Jomax Technologies by Bob Parsons, who previously founded the software development company Parsons Technology, Inc. The company changed its name to Go Daddy in 1999 when a group of employees were brainstorming on a more memorable name than Jomax Technologies. Someone said "How about Big Daddy?" A quick check revealed that it was taken. Then Parsons said "How about Go Daddy?" The name was available, so he bought it. CEO Bob Parsons states the company stuck with the name because it made people smile and remember it.
Go Daddy has grown to become the largest ICANN-accredited registrar on the internet^. In 2001, soon after Network Solutions was no longer the only place to register a domain, Go Daddy was approximately the same size as competitors Dotster and eNom.In April 2005 it surpassed Network Solutions in market share in terms of total domain names registered. By 2009, Go Daddy had become 3.5 times the size of eNom and 30 times the size of Dotster.
In 2002, Go Daddy sued VeriSign for domain slammingand again in 2003 over its Site Finder service.This latter suit caused controversy over VeriSign's role as the sole maintainer of the .com and the .net top-level domains. VeriSign shut down Site Finder after receiving a letter from ICANN ordering it to comply with a request to disable the service. In 2006, Go Daddy was sued by Web.com for patent infringement.
In 2007 and 2008, the company lobbied in favor of legislation that would crack down on unscrupulous online pharmacies and child predators.

A domain name registrar is an organization or commercial entity, accredited by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) or by a national country code top-level domain (ccTLD) authority, to manage the reservation of Internet domain names in accordance with the guidelines of the designated domain name registries and offer such services to the public.

Designated registrar

An end-user cannot directly register a domain and manage their domain information with ICANN. A designated registrar must be chosen. Prior to 1999, the only com registrar was NSI, but the approval of the SRS opened up the opportunity for other companies to be designated as registrars.
Each ICANN-accredited registrar must pay a fixed fee of US$4,000 plus a variable fee. The sum of variable registrar fees are designed to total US$3.8 million.
Only the designated registrar may modify or delete information about a domain name. The competition that the SRS created enables end users to choose from many registrars offering different services at varying prices. It is not unusual for an end user to switch registrars which invokes a domain transfer process governed by specific domain name transfer policies.
When a registrar registers a com domain name for an end-user, it must pay a maximum annual fee of US$6.86 to VeriSign, the registry operator for com, and a US$0.20 administration fee to ICANN. Most domain registrars price their services and products to address both the annual fees and the administration fees that must be paid to ICANN. Barriers to entry into the bulk registrar industry are high for new companies without an existing customer base.^{[citation needed]}
Many registrars also offer registration through reseller affiliates. An end-user registers either directly with a registrar, or indirectly through one or more layers of resellers. As of 2008, the cost generally ranges from a low of about $7.50 per year to about $35 per year. The maximum period of registration of a domain name is generally 10 years.
Some registrars are offering longer periods of up to one hundred years, but such offers involve the registrar renewing the registration for their customer. The one hundred year domain name registration would not be in the official registration database. Some packages of Internet services, such as web hosting, include the domain registration in the total package pricing.

Domain name transfer

A Domain name transfer is the process of changing the designated registrar of a domain name. ICANN has defined a Policy on Transfer of Registrations between Registrars^[1] The usual process of a domain name transfer is:

The end user verifies that the whois admin contact info is correct, particularly the email address; obtains the authentication code (EPP transfer code) from the old registrar, and removes any domain lock that has been placed on the registration.
The end user contacts the new registrar with the wish to transfer the domain name to their service, and supplies the authentication code.
The new registrar will contact the old registrar with this information.
The old registrar will contact the end user to confirm the authenticity of this request. The end user may have to take further action with the old registrar, such as returning to the online management tools, to re-iterate their desire to proceed, in order to expedite the transfer.
The old registrar will release authority to the new registrar.
The new registrar will notify the end user of transfer completion. The new registrar may have automatically copied over the domain server information, and everything on the website will continue to work as before. Otherwise, the domain server information will need to be updated with the new registrar.

After this process, the new registrar becomes the domain name's designated registrar. The process may take about five days. In some cases, the old registrar may intentionally delay the transfer as long as allowable. After transfer, the domain cannot be transferred again for 60 days, except back to the previous registrar.
It is unwise to attempt to transfer a domain immediately before it expires. In some cases, a transfer can take up to 14 days, meaning that the transfer may not complete before the registration expires. This could result in loss of the domain name registration and failure of the transfer. To avoid this, end users should either transfer well before the expiration date, or renew the registration before attempting the transfer.[1]
If a domain registration expires, irrespective of the reason, it can be difficult, expensive, or impossible for the original owner to get it back. After the expiration date, the domain status often passes through several management phases, often for a period of months; usually it does not simply become generally available.^{[citation needed]}

Transfer scams

With the introduction of SRS, many smaller registrars had to compete with each other. Some companies offered value added services or used viral marketing, while others, such as VeriSign and the Domain Registry of America attempted to trick customers to switch from their current registrar using a practice known as domain slamming.
Many of these transfer scams involve a notice sent in the mail, fax, or e-mail. Some scammers contacted end users by telephone (since the contact information is available through WHOIS) to obtain more information. These notices would include information publicly available from the WHOIS database to add to the look of authenticity. The text would include legalese to confuse the end user into thinking that it is an official binding notice. Scam registrars go after domain names that are expiring soon or have recently expired. Expired domain names do not have to go through the authentication process to be transferred, as the previous registrar would have relinquished management rights of the domain name. Domain name expiry dates are readily available via WHOIS.

Top-Level Domains
The top-level domains (TLDs) are the highest level of domain names of the Internet. They form the DNS root zone of the hierarchical Domain Name System. Every domain name ends in a top-level or first-level domain label.
When the Domain Name System was created in the 1980s, the domain name space was divided into two main groups of domains.^[1] The country code top-level domains (ccTLD) were primarily based on the two-character territory codes of ISO-3166 country abbreviations. In addition, a group of seven generic top-level domains (gTLD) was implemented which represented a set of categories of names and multi-organizations.^[2] These were the domains GOV, EDU, COM, MIL, ORG, NET, and INT.
During the growth of the Internet, it became desirable to create additional generic top-level domains. As of June 2009, there are 20 generic top-level domains and 248 country code top-level domains.^[3] In addition, the ARPA domain serves technical purposes in the infrastructure of the Domain Name System.
During the 32nd International Public ICANN Meeting in Paris in 2008,^[4] ICANN started a new process of TLD naming policy to take a "significant step forward on the introduction of new generic top-level domains." This program envisions the availability of many new or already proposed domains, as well a new application and implementation process.^[5] Observers believed that the new rules could result in hundreds of new top-level domain to be registered.^[6]

Second-level and lower level domains
Below the top-level domains in the domain name hierarchy are the second-level domain (SLD) names. These are the names directly to the left of .com, .net, and the other top-level domains. As an example, in the domain en.wikipedia.org, wikipedia is the second-level domain.
Next are third-level domains, which are written immediately to the left of a second-level domain. There can be fourth- and fifth-level domains, and so on, with virtually no limitation. An example of an operational domain name with four levels of domain labels is www.sos.state.oh.us. The www preceding the domains is the host name of the World-Wide Web server. Each label is separated by a full stop (dot). 'sos' is said to be a sub-domain of 'state.oh.us', and 'state' a sub-domain of 'oh.us', etc. In general, subdomains are domains subordinate to their parent domain. An example of very deep levels of subdomain ordering are the IPv6 reverse resolution DNS zones, e.g., 1.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.ip6.arpa, which is the reverse DNS resolution domain name for the IP address of a loopback interface, or the localhost name.
Second-level (or lower-level, depending on the established parent hierarchy) domain names are often created based on the name of a company (e.g., microsoft.com), product or service (e.g., gmail.com). Below these levels, the next domain name component has been used to designate a particular host server. Therefore, ftp.wikipedia.org might be an FTP server, www.wikipedia.org would be a World Wide Web server, and mail.wikipedia.org could be an email server, each intended to perform only the implied function. Modern technology allows multiple physical servers with either different (cf. load balancing) or even identical addresses (cf. anycast) to serve a single hostname or domain name, or multiple domain names to be served by a single computer. The latter is very popular in Web hosting service centers, where service providers host the websites of many organizations on just a few servers.

A domain name is an identification label that defines a realm of administrative autonomy, authority, or control in the Internet, based on the Domain Name System (DNS).
Domain names are used in various networking contexts and application-specific naming and addressing purposes. They are organized in subordinate levels (subdomains) of the DNS root domain, which is nameless. You may have heard of joint venture marketing, It's used frequently by savvy entrepreneurs to increase profits and add loads of prospects to their customer list.
So what is joint venture marketing (or j/v)?
Speaking at the Information Marketing Boot Camp (http://www.dc-infobiz.com), Joint venture expert and entrepreneur John Alanis describes it as "a mutually beneficial agreement to sell similar products or services to customers or prospects."
You approach another entrepreneur and ask them if they'll endorse your product and allow you to mail to their customer list.
In exchange, you give the entrepreneur a cut of the gross profits, usually anywhere from 5 to 25 percent. Or you could arrange a list swap.
J/V marketing allows you to quickly add hundreds or thousands of names to your customer list.
The first step is to find a suitable joint venture partner.
Where do you look?
Try your own customers first. Send out a letter or email announcing you're looking for a j/v partner. Be sure to tell them you're looking for a partner who sells similar products to your own. And ask how many customers they have on their list. Obviously, the more, the better.
Another way of to find j/v partners is in trade publications. Look at the advertisers. You'll probably find a few that sell similar products to your own. Contact them by phone or letter and explain you'd like to create a joint venture with them.
Also look in the Standard Rate and Data Service (SRDS) (http://www.srds.com). This directory has every commercially available mailing list, the list owner, etc. Most larger libraries will have a copy of SRDS, although it may be a year or two out of date.
As well, check out the Oxbridge Directory of Newsletters (http://www.mediafinder.com) It's an excellent source for potential customers from newsletter subscriptions. It's an expensive directory to buy, but ask your library if they have a copy.
YOU MUST BE ENDORSED The most important thing is you must have your fellow entrepreneur include a letter of endorsement.
He has already established a relationship with his customers. You haven't. If his customers are satisfied with his product, then they'll much more open to receiving information from him about other products.
Without the endorsement, the customer response will drop significantly.
You can also ghost write the endorsement letter for your j/v partner and then have him sign it.
APPROACHING A J/V PARTNER The best way to approach a potential joint venture partner is to send a letter and then follow up by phone. Be prepared to phone at least a couple of times before your partner agrees.
When sending out the letter proposing a joint venture partnership, be sure to do the following:

Offer to do all the work. You'll handle all the mailing, marketing documents, and product fulfilment.

Collect the customer money yourself and then send your j/v partner his cut for each sale.

Stress the fact that your partner will be "getting money for no work." This is a strong incentive for an entrepreneur to become your j/v partner.

You will deduct your mailing costs and other expenses first and then split the balance with the partner.

Always get your j/v partner to sign your letter agreeing to your terms.

Include an "exit clause." This allows you to cancel the j/v agreement if you find your partner is a headache to deal with.By following these steps to a joint venture, you'll be able to quickly add hundreds or thousands of potential customers to your database that normally would take years to accumulate.
And, most importantly, you'll increase your sales.

As humanity grows in it's awareness...it also grows in karmic responsibility. So years ago many industries caused environmental problems, but were not aware of that fact. However, karmic law states all things must return home..........so these industries don't really exist today.....or operate in a weakened condition [ in the future they will not exist at all].

According to my spirit guides, there is a big push these days too clean up the karma of the global business world. We know from the news that many business institutions, and even very large corporations are in trouble these days..many will not make it through the heavy gate of karmic return. They will fail.............

On the brighter side, Spirit is not against business, but is really pro-business....so now what?The newer business model that is emerging is much more holistic. By agreeing to function more holistically, much less damaging karma developes.....and if you're really aware of all business levels...very little negative karma developes. So, if you're in a corporate or business situation, and things are not really going right...take the time to clear the issues up, before you catch the karmic flu!

Just at the environmental level, many things should be addressed....but just start by keeping your office or work space clean and organized....this helps clear out negative energy patterns. Taking it one step further...use Feng Shui tools and techniques if you know how. Or buy a book, hire a consultant or use trial and error to solve some of the ongoing issues around you at the job or business.

Erosion is a gravity driven process that moves solids (sediment, soil, rock and other particles) in the natural environment or their source and deposits them elsewhere. It usually occurs due to transport by wind, water, or ice; by down-slope creep of soil and other material under the force of gravity; or by living organisms, such as burrowing animals, in the case of bioerosion.

Causes
The rate of erosion depends on many factors. Climatic factors include the amount and intensity of precipitation, the average temperature, as well as the typical temperature range, and seasonality, the wind speed, storm frequency. The geologic factors include the sediment or rock type, its porosity and permeability, the slope (gradient) of the land, and whether the rocks are tilted, faulted, folded, or weathered. The biological factors include ground cover from vegetation

or lack thereof, the type of organisms inhabiting the area, and the land use.

In general, given similar vegetation and ecosystems, areas with high-intensity precipitation, more frequent rainfall, more wind, or more storms are expected to have more erosion. Sediment with high sand or silt contents and areas with steep slopes erode more easily, as do areas with highly fractured or weathered rock. Porosity and permeability of the sediment or rock affect the speed with which the water can percolate into the ground. If the water moves underground, less runoff is generated, reducing the amount of surface erosion. Sediments containing more clay tend to erode less than those with sand or silt. Here, however, the impact of atmospheric sodium on erodibility of clay should be considered.^[3]

The factor that is most subject to change is the amount and type of ground cover. In an undisturbed forest, the mineral soil is protected by a litter layer and an organic layer. These two layers protect the soil by absorbing the impact of rain drops. These layers and the underlying soil in a forest are porous and highly permeable to rainfall. Typically, only the most severe rainfall and large hailstorm events will lead to overland flow in a forest. If the trees are removed by fire or logging, infiltration rates become high and erosion low to the degree the forest floor remains intact. Severe fires can lead to significantly increased erosion if followed by heavy rainfall. In the case of construction or road building, when the litter layer is removed or compacted, the susceptibility of the soil to erosion is greatly increased.

Roads are especially likely to cause increased rates of erosion because, in addition to removing ground cover, they can significantly change drainage patterns, especially if an embankment has been made to support the road. A road that has a lot of rock and one that is "hydrologically invisible" (that gets the water off the road as quickly as possible, mimicking natural drainage patterns) has the best chance of not causing increased erosion.

Many human activities remove vegetation from an area, making the soil easily eroded. Logging can cause increased erosion rates due to soil compaction, exposure of mineral soil, for example roads and landings. However it is the removal of or compromise to the forest floor not the removal of the canopy that can lead to erosion. This is because rain drops striking tree leaves coalesce with other rain drops creating larger drops. When these larger drops fall (called throughfall) they again may reach terminal velocity and strike the ground with more energy then had they fallen in the open. Terminal velocity of rain drops is reached in about 8 meters. Because forest canopies are usually higher than this, leaf drop can regain terminal velocity. However, the intact forest floor, with its layers of leaf litter and organic matter, absorbs the impact of the rainfall.^[4]

Heavy grazing can reduce vegetation enough to increase erosion. Changes in the kind of vegetation in an area can also affect erosion rates. Different kinds of vegetation lead to different infiltration rates of rain into the soil. Forested areas have higher infiltration rates, so precipitation will result in less surface runoff, which erodes. Instead much of the water will go in subsurface flows, which are generally less erosive. Leaf litter and low shrubs are an important part of the high infiltration rates of forested systems, the removal of which can increase erosion rates. Leaf litter also shelters the soil from the impact of falling raindrops, which is a significant agent of erosion. Vegetation can also change the speed of surface runoff flows, so grasses and shrubs can also be instrumental in this aspect.

One of the main causes of erosive soil loss in the year 2006 is the result of slash and burn treatment of tropical forest. When the total ground surface is stripped of vegetation and then seared of all living organisms, the upper soils are vulnerable to both wind and water erosion. In a number of regions of the earth, entire sectors of a country have been rendered unproductive. For example, on the Madagascar high central plateau, comprising approximately ten percent of that country's land area, virtually the entire landscape is sterile of vegetation, with gully erosive furrows typically in excess of 50 meters deep and one kilometer wide. Shifting cultivation is a farming system which sometimes incorporates the slash and burn method in some regions of the world. This degrades the soil and causes the soil to become less and less fertile.

Effects

Approximately 40% of the world's agricultural land is seriously degraded.^[5] According to the UN, an area of fertile soil the size of Ukraine is lost every year because of drought, deforestation and climate change.^[6] In Africa, if current trends of soil degradation continue, the continent might be able to feed just 25% of its population by 2025, according to UNU's Ghana-based Institute for Natural Resources in Africa.^[7]

When land is overused by animal activities (including humans), there can be mechanical erosion and also removal of vegetation leading to erosion. In the case of the animal kingdom, this effect would become material primarily with very large animal herds stampeding such as the Blue Wildebeest on the Serengeti plain. Even in this case there are broader material benefits to the ecosystem, such as continuing the survival of grasslands, that are indigenous to this region. This effect may be viewed as anomalous or a problem only when there is a significant imbalance or overpopulation of one species.

In the case of human use, the effects are also generally linked to overpopulation. When large number of hikers use trails or extensive off road vehicle use occurs, erosive effects often follow, arising from vegetation removal and furrowing of foot traffic and off road vehicle tires. These effects can also accumulate from a variety of outdoor human activities, again simply arising from too many people using a finite land resource.

One of the most serious and long-running water erosion problems worldwide is in the People's Republic of China, on the middle reaches of the Yellow River and the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. From the Yellow River, over 1.6 billion tons of sediment flows into the ocean each year. The sediment originates primarily from water erosion in the Loess Plateau region of the northwest.

Most causes of true shoulder pain fall into 3 categories
? tendonitis/bursitis- With repetitive motion, the bursae (small fluid-filled sacs) surrounding the shoulder joint can become inflamed. This condition is called bursitis.
? injury/instability- Keeping your arms extended above your head; chronic compression , ie. forcing the shoulder into its socket; muscle imbalance- if one of the muscles is extra weak, that can cause the rotator cuff to function poorly.
? arthritis- Usually a function of aging.

Patient tips:
? Try to limit the number of overhead reaches.
? If you're wheelchair-bound, tuck your arms a bit closer to your body as you push.
? Avoid repetitive motion.
? Work on rotator cuff strengthening. Range-of-motion exercises are important!
? Use correct posture!

One tip that might help if you have chronic shoulder pain and have a "frozen shoulder" is to use a broomstick for stretching and range-of-motion exercises.
Oral anti-inflammatory medicines are sometimes, but not always, helpful. Patients may require a steroid injection. For people who don't respond to medicines, injections, and physical therapy, another option is surgery. Any type of surgery should be done by a skilled shoulder surgeon. "The shoulder is the most complex joint so make sure whoever works on your shoulder is an expert with shoulders," advises Dr. Wei.

Hit or flop, Amitabh is still Bollywood's goldmine

New Delhi, Nov 10 (IANS) A ghost, an eccentric theatre actor or a flamboyant genie, Amitabh Bachchan has done quite a few over-the-top roles and not delivered big hits in four years. But for filmmakers, the megastar is still a phenomenon they can't wait to sign on.

"I would love to cast him for all my films. I just hope that I keep getting ideas where I can fit him," said R. Balakrishnan, director of his forthcoming film "Paa".

Relasing Dec 4, "Paa" features Amitabh as a progeria patient.

"Amitabh Bachchan has crossed that mark of a hit or a flop affecting him. He is a phenomenon. He is the first veteran where stories are written keeping him in mind. Whether or not a film works is besides the point. He is not competing with anyone here," trade analyst Taran Adarsh told IANS over phone from Mumbai.

"Every director wants to work with him at least once in his career. They've grown up watching him on the big screen. He is an encyclopaedia on acting. He has a different range altogether. He is a superb actor...and we can't deny that fact, no matter what the fate of a film," he said.

Some of the 67-year-old thespian's films have turned out to be over-hyped in terms of both content and characters, with the recent one being "Aladin" that was declared a dud on the first day itself. Amitabh plays a flamboyant genie in the movie.

Even his special appearance in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's "Delhi-6" early this year, as Abhishek Bachchan's grandfather, could not save the film from sinking. But he still rules the desire list of filmmakers.

"He is in demand because he is Amitabh Bachchan. He is a cult (figure). He has worked very hard and given success after success earlier. After his comeback from a break a few years ago, he is now having fun with cinema," said film critic Omar Qureshi.

"And he can afford to do that even if it means doing a crazy character in 'Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag'. He is doing roles that he finds interesting. If the film doesn't work, that is not his fault."

And cinema too has undergone a sea change with time.

"Take his characters in 'Nishabd' and 'Aladin'. No one could dare do that earlier. He is just going with the flow. His performance cannot be doubted. He is too good as an actor," explained Qureshi.

While Amitabh featured in duds like "Family", "Darna Zaroori Hai", "Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna" and "Baabul" in 2006, a string of flops followed in 2007 too with "Eklavya: The Royal Guard", "Nishabd", "Jhoom Barabar Jhoom" and "Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag". Two of his outings the same year - "Cheeni Kum" and "Shootout at Lokhandwala" - were critically acclaimed but were not money grossers.

Last year was again disappointing with commercial failures like "Bhoothnath", "Sarkar Raj", "God Tussi Great Ho" and "The Last Lear".

But writer-turned-director Rumy Jafry has no regrets for the failure of his film "God Tussi Great Ho" because it starred the Big B.

"It's a dream for every director to work with him. Despite his age, he still works as a student and is completely a director's actor. Neither does he interfere in anything. Look at 'Paa' for instance. He sat for close to five hours just for the make up and that shows his patience," said Jafry, who cast the Big B as God Almighty in the movie.

Jafry can't stop praising the veteran's professionalism.

"The whole world knows that there is no bigger actor and star than Amitabh Bachchan. There is no star in the industry more disciplined than him. Even if he was 10 minutes late, he would make sure to inform, while there are actors who are over two hours late without any notice," Jafry told IANS.

But Bachchan prefers to be modest and says he is just a character artist nowadays.

"May be in the early years, they (audiences) came to watch my films because I was in it. But now I am just one of the credit titles. I am not that important," Amitabh had told IANS in a recent interview.

"I am a part of the crew and the cast. Even in my early years, I used to think that. I think the product itself is more important. It's the film that is going to make you or your name or give you visibility. If that goes wrong then everything goes wrong. So one must work as a team so that the product works," he added.

The star is still on a signing spree and has four projects lined up - "Paa", "Teen Patti", "Rann" and "Johnny Mastana".

Akshay Kumar will be torch bearer from India for 2010 Olympics

The sportiest star of the Indian Film Industry, is now going ahead and becoming the international khiladi as he will soon be seen in the most respected sporting event, The 2010 Olympics games, as the sole star representing the global entertainment industry.

Akshay has been the brand ambassador from India for the Special Olympics World Winter Games for the past three years, but this year he is also going to be the torch bearer at the Winter Games being held in Vancouver, Canada.

Akshay's love for sports is a well known fact; he was recently awarded the highest Japanese honour of 'Katana' at his first international karate championship. Not only that, but he has shot for 'Seven Deadly Sins' for the National Geographic channel recently.

This one would be another feather in his cap, as only 15 international celebrities have been invited to Canada to participate in carrying the torch.

The games will be held from January 30 to February 14, 2010. Akshay will be presented the torch on November 16 by the Canadian Prime Minister Steven Harper, in Mumbai. At a high power exclusive lunch organised for 50 CEO's of respected tourism companies, the PM will be introducing Akshay as the sole torch bearer from India.

New Delhi, Nov 14 (IANS) Soha Ali Khan says she doesn't mind working in movies made under her brother Saif's banner, but not as his sister.

"At the moment, there are no plans to work under Saif's banner because he has just done 'Love Aaj Kal' and now he is working on 'Agent Vinod'," Soha told IANS in an interview.

"Most of the films Saif is planning at the moment will have him as the hero; so that doesn't leave much space for me apart from being the sister of the hero, which is not very exciting.

"Unless he ventures out and makes something where he is not playing the hero, then maybe we will do something together. I would want that because I like his taste in films a lot," she said.

Saif branched out into film production by launching his banner Illuminati Films and his maiden venture as producer was hit film "Love Aaj Kal". Directed by Imtiaz Ali, it starred him along with Deepika Padukone.

Asked if she would be interested in venturing into production or direction, the 31-year-old said: "I might venture into production but not anytime soon. At the moment I feel that I'm very new and I love being in front of the camera and I want to continue acting. As far as direction is concerned, I don't think I have the maturity for that at the moment. It's only acting for me now."

Soha, daughter of veteran actress Sharmila Tagore and cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, made her acting debut with "Dil Maange More" in 2004. She then received critical acclaim for her performances in films like "Rang De Basanti" (2006) and "Mumbai Meri Jaan" (2008).

In her recent release "Tum Mile", which is set against the backdrop of the 2005 Mumbai floods, Soha is paired opposite Emraan Hashmi. Made under Mahesh and Mukesh Bhatt's Vishesh Films, the film has been directed by Kunal Deshmukh.

The back is the workhorse of human body. This remarkably strong structure literally carries the burden of the entire body, and is responsible for almost every move you make. This makes it susceptible to injury, and the resultant back pain can be quite immobilizing. It is estimated that four out of five adults suffer from back pain at least once during their lifetimes, and it is also one of the main reasons for being absent from work.

The good news is that back pain relief exercises help most patients. In fact, those who suffer from chronic back pain usually benefit from regular stretches and bends and easy to apply treatments. The reasons for back pain are many; specialists have identified falls, bad posture or sudden jerks or even osteoporosis as some of the root causes. Mothering Sunday was also known as 'Refreshment Sunday' or 'Mid-Lent Sunday'. It was often called Refreshment Sunday because the fasting rules for Lent were relaxed, in honour of the Feeding of the Five Thousand, a story in the Christian Bible.
No one is absolutely certain exactly how the idea of Mothering Sunday began, but we know that on this day, about four hundred years ago, people who lived in little villages made a point of going not to their local church but to the nearest big church. To what was called the Mother Church and some would go to the nearest city to worship in the cathedral.
People who visited their mother church would say they had gone "a mothering." Young English girls and boys 'in service' were only allowed one day to visit their family each year. This was usually Mothering Sunday. Often the housekeeper or cook would allow the maids to bake a cake to take home for their mother. Sometimes a gift of eggs; or flowers from the garden (or hothouse) was allowed. Flowers were traditional, as the young girls and boys would have to walk home to their village, and could gather them on their way home through the meadows.

The most expensive Bollywood movie ever made, the historical epic Pazhassi Raja has been the big Diwali hit in Kerala and elsewhere this weekend, with over 500 prints produced. Starring Mammootty in the title role, the film tells the tragic tale of the epic rebellion of Pazhassi Raja, an early king of Kerala at the end of the 18th century, who led an army of Nairs and Kurichiyas, armed with little more than swords and bows and arrows, who fought the British to a standstill for more than ten years in the forests of the south. The movie has been compared to recent Chinese-made epics such as Hero or Red Cliff. Plus, once you finally can’t take it anymore and you decide to buy a more powerful notebook, you’ll sleep well knowing that the GYY’s casing is made from biodegradable materials such as starch, cellulose, or corn flour. The Alienware M17X has a lot more than storage to love. You get a killer gaming experience on its 17-inch LCD, courtesy of a maximum 2GB of dedicated video memory. In addition, the M17X sports a 2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Extreme Mobile processor, an nVidia GeForce GTX 260 graphics card, an eight-in-one card reader, up to 8GB of RAM, and a battery with an average life of just over 3 hours. Optional features include a TV tuner and a Blu-ray drive.

When PC World put this desktop replacement through its paces, Senior Writer Darren Gladstone said that the M17X had "blistering gamer-approved performance" thanks to its high-resolution display and amazing graphics capability. The downside is that the 1TB storage option is available only in the Alienware M17X European model. Unless you plan to travel across the pond, you'll have to make do with a maximum 640GB of space in the form of a 5400-rpm traditional hard drive, or 512GB of storage from two 256GB solid-state drives.

It's alive!" as the machine starts up for the first time, and the lights in the neighborhood dim.

This beast may not turn against its master or declare war on humanity, but it will scare even the most experienced laptop user with its $5950 price tag ($3000 for the not-so-frightening base model). Under the hood it has 8GB of RAM, two 80GB solid-state drives with Windows Vista, one 320GB traditional hard drive running at 7200 rpm for file storage, an nVidia GeForce Go 9800M GTX graphics processor, and a 3GHz Xeon Quad Core X3370 processor running the show. The Eurocom is currently the WorldBench 6 speed champion in the laptop division, with a score of 133. Translation: It's fast — very, very fast.

If you want a speedy machine that won’t drain your bank account so quickly, consider Dell's Alienware M15X with Intel's new Core i7 processor. The M15x isn’t cheap ($1499 just for the no-frills base model), but it is a little more portable at 9 pounds, and it still delivers an impressive punch.

The M2010 rocks an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, up to 4GB of DDR2 memory, a 20.1-inch screen, eight speakers and a subwoofer, and a maximum 500GB hard drive.

The M2010 is so big that you might mistake it for a desktop all-in-one machine. It is technically a portable — but if you’re planning on toting it around, remember to use your knees when lifting.

Specs include a 2.6GHz Core 2 Duo Extreme X7800 processor, 4GB RAM, two 160GB hard drives, Wi-Fi, and HDMI and eSATA ports. HP has discontinued the Dragon, so you'll have to scour Amazon, eBay, and online thrift shops to find it.

Though HP had designed the Dragon to compete with Dell's XPS M2010, another 20-inch-screen behemoth, this size of laptop turned out to be a little too crazy for most people.
If more screen space is what you need, keep in mind that manufacturers have been showing off some multiple-screen laptop ideas that may be coming soon, including Asus's Dual-Panel E-reader/Netbook, gScreen's concept with two slide-out 15.4-inch LCD screens, and Intel's Tangent Bay prototype with a regular display plus three OLED touchscreens right above the keyboard.
If you're looking for something more traditional, PC World has reviewed a number of laptops with 16- or 17-inch screens, such as the MacBook Pro, the Alienware M17X, and the Lenovo ThinkPad W700 DS, the last of which has a second 10.6-inch monitor hiding behind its 17-inch main screen

Reasons to love it: As it did with the original Adamo, Dell is keeping information about the new Adamo XPS locked down. All we know is that the machine is thinner than the 0.76-inch MacBook and the 0.65-inch Adamo. The XPS is supposed to have a 13-inch screen just like the original Adamo, and will likely continue the Adamo trend of having an equally ridiculous price tag (the original Adamo will set you back $1,999 to $2,699).
Note, however, that Dell describes the XPS as a concept machine that’s not ready for production. It's hard to know when (or if) the XPS will see the light of day, but my money is on this supermodel-thin beauty becoming available in the next few months.

How long the new Adamo will remain the thinnest is another question. Notebooks are slimming down faster than a Weight Watchers spokesperson. In 2005, Asus was bragging about its ultrathin 0.9-inch laptop — but in a post-MacBook Air world, that's practically obese.

Main Aur Meri Himmat sounds like the name of some action flick. However this movie would be an outright comedy and guess who would be playing the lead? None other than the bad boy of cricket, Shoaib Akthar. Akthar, who is in Bangalore to play the final Test against India at the Chinnaswamy stadium from December 8 onwards, approved the script for Main Aur Meri Himmat to be directed by Sanghamitra Chaudhary and produced by Nissha creations. Sanghamitra was at the Hotel Grand Ashok, Bangalore where players of both the Indian and Pakistan team are staying. After a long wait, she finally got an appointment with Akthar who had been given a copy of the script earlier. Akthar who read through the script is said to have approved the same and is also eager to act in the movie. Sanghamitra after meeting with the cricketing hero told rediff.com that he is very excited about the movie. Shooting should commence once they sort out certain issues with Akthar's business partners. There are some formalities which are to be completed, she said. Sanghamitra says that the movie will focus more on Shoaib as a person rather than a cricketer. She says that she has always been interested in the lives of cricketers since a young age. She says that the movie will take everyone by surprise when they see Akthar playing an entirely different character compared to what he is off screen. The film will be shot in Punjab, Lahore and Lucknow and the director is trying to rope in more characters from both the Indian and Pakistan teams for the movie. Sanghamitra has roped in Deepika Padukener ( oso fame ) for the female lead role. The amount that Shoaib will be paid for the movie still remains undecided. Sources say that he has demanded Rs 8 crore to do the movie. However the producers had offered him just Rs 1 crore, which again is one third of the total budget of the movie. This aspect is yet to be finalised

According to website RadarOnline, the couple - who celebrated the birth of their second child, son Sparrow, last month - are rumoured to have secretly tied the knot in an intimate service on Wednesday (14.10.09) after obtaining a marriage licence last week.

BLACK HAWK DOWN and PEARL HARBOR actor Tom Sizemore has been arrested in Los Angeles on alleged domestic violence charges.
Police spokesman Richard French says the 47-year-old actor was arrested Wednesday night in the downtown area. French did not have details of the incident.
French said Sizemore remained jailed Thursday morning. His bail was set at $20,000.
Sizemore couldn't immediately be reached for comment. Representatives for two agencies listed as representing Sizemore said they no longer did so.

Debra Winger demands for Polanski's release

As you saw on the site in a post late last night, film director Roman Polanski has been arrested on 30 year old rape charges in Switzerland this past weekend (read more about that here). In follow-up news today it seems that Polanski is all set to fight and extradition moves put forward by US authorities.

According to Daily Variety, Polanski's French lawyer said ealier on Monday that the director would fight extradition as the arrest has 'spiraled into an international incident, with France announcing it had appealed to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for his release.'
Polanski has lived in Paris and avoided countries with extradition agreements with the U.S. since being charged in 1977 for having sex with a 13-year-old girl.
Meanwhile, Zurich Film Festival jury president Debra Winger on Monday demanded the release of Polanski from jail in Switzerland.

Mel Gibson gets that DUI wiped

Mel Gibson has had his DUI charged wiped completely from his record.
The Braveheart actor was arrested in July 2006 after driving while intoxicated. He was subsequently sentenced to three years' probation on a misdemeanour charge of driving under the influence (DUI).
However, the star filed legal papers in September asking a judge to remove the DUI from his record because he has completed the terms of his probation.
